Hello, eljay. Yes, I know it's been a while, but, like, what else is new, and besides, this time I actually have a reasonable excuse in that I have been SICK LIKE A DOG, and a gruesomely sick dog at that. Also, sick like a spotty dog, because it's not bad enough that I couldn't eat a fucking thing for almost two weeks, but just when my stomach finally decided that food was possibly not a mortal enemy after all, my limbs broke out in a measle-ish rash that was pretty much every bit as attractive as it sounds. And then, THEN!!!! My legs started hurting so much I could barely walk, it felt like the soles of my feet were bruised and that every bone in my calves, shins and knees had been filed to sharp points the better to skewer all my muscles and nerves.

It was not fun, oh, no, it was not. Also? My doctor (well, she's not mine, thank god, but she's filling in for my doctor whiles she's on mat leave) is an ass. She suggested on the first visit that perhaps I should avoid tomatoes and spicy food. To which I said, "Well, that shouldn't be a problem, should it, since, as I believe I mentioned, I can't eat a freaking thing without hurling." When I finally dragged my crippled, rash-ridden self back a week later, she was forced to concede that indigestion probably wasn't to blame. Bleh.

Anyway, the rash has almost entirely disappeared now, my legs barely hurt at all, my stomach is behaving quite nicely most days, and the dermatologist she referred me to says the whole shebang was caused by a virus. He says that the rash was actually "the echo of a virus" which has a rather pleasing sound to it for something that sucked so mightily.

So, how the hell have you been?

The echo of a virus-that sounds very romantic.

Or something. Good to see you back.

It's good to be back.

that sounds very romantic

It does, doesn't it? I think I'll choose to view the last few weeks as a failed elopement. Or something equally grand and tragical. Much more palatable than the prosaic (and spotty) reality. Gretna Green, ho!

Dude, that sounds like the plague from hell and not at all fun. They did tests and stuff, right, to figure out what else, if not indigestion, it could be... and stuff?

*hugs carefully*

*hugs back in a totally non-transfer of germ way*

The dermatologist sent me for tests to make sure the virus hasn't invaded my internal organs, which apparently is possible but very unlikely. He told me that "if anything gets worse" to hie myself to emergency. Fortunately, nothing has, and I haven't heard back from my doctor's replacement (the test results were to be sent to her) so I'm going with "Yay! I'm cured!" I have a follow up visit scheduled next week, so perhaps I'll find out more then.

It was indeed miserable. In fact, miserable is probably the perfect word for it. It's nice to be back, too!

You sound like you've been astonishingly ill - I hope the doctor's planning to look into it a little bit more, because that sounds like it was serious.

The dermatologist sent me for tests and the results will go to my doctor's replacement, so whether she was planning on looking into it or not, it's happening. I'm thinking next time my body decides to act up, I should probably hit a walk-in clinic -- at least until my regular doctor is back.

Oh, ugh. Honey. *hugs you gently* I'm glad you're feeling better, now. It sounds like you had strep -- or technically, scarlet fever (which is basically strep with a rash). I'm not, however, a medical professional, so don't take my word for it :)

But definitely glad you're feeling better!

*hugs you back* Strep, huh? I've always associated strep with a sore throat, which shows how much I know. I used to have recurrent attacks of strep throat when I was a kid -- let's hope this was just a one-off!

I feel so sorry for you, it sounds like you've had an absolutely miserable time! I hope you'll get completely well soon and that there won't be any nasty after effects. Take care of yourself!

Thank you! It was definitely miserable and kind of scary, too -- although less so after the dermatologist said that everything was related. It's just too weird when your body starts throwing totally random symptoms at you! I'm almost completely symptom-free now, just dealing with residual exhaustion -- much easier to tolerate than spots!

I like the echo of a virus thing...it definitely has a nice ring to it, like dying of consumption sounds so much better than TB.

I'm glad you appear to be on the mend, and whoa, seriously, with the asshat replacement doctor.

It really does, doesn't it? Just as "a fit of the vapours" sounds much more appealing than "having the crap squeezed out of you by your corset."

My replacement doctor truly takes asshattery to new levels. If only it weren't so difficult to find decent (or any) doctors who are accepting new patients in this city.
