I don't usually do the writing-year-in-review meme because I get all tongue-tied and shy and also appalled at the dearth of writing to actually review, and we're already more than a full week into 2007, but what the hey. This ended up being a lot longer than I expected, so I cut to spare you the eye strain should you find such things tedious beyond endurance:
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Dude, I quadrupled my output from 2005! Quadrupled! Which, you know, would be considerably more impressive if I had, in fact, written more than one lonely story in 2005, but still. Quadrupled! The stories I wrote in 2006 were: Consequences for the JuC Swap, Chasing the Dragon for [personal profile] pensnest's Dragon challenge, The Frog Prince (Sort Of) for the Lambs Day Challenge, and Like a Big Pizza Pie for DWNOGA. At least I’m pretty sure that’s all I wrote. I did a crappy job of tagging last year, and an even crappier job of adding stories to memories, but that’s all I remember writing.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2006?
The angst-o-rific Chasing the Dragon caught me off guard. Originally, I’d planned on writing one of my usual fluff-fests of miscommunication and snark, but it just wouldn’t come together, and the deadline was LOOMING in that fearsomely loomy way deadlines do, so I had to shelve that idea, leaving me with precisely NOTHING. Pen very graciously gave me an extra couple of days, and when I sat down to write, this came out. Very short, very dark, very not me.

What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
It’s a tie. The Frog Prince (Sort Of) was so much fun to write – I mean, dude, Lance as a frog -- and it was my first kinda sorta fairytale, so yeah, much happiness there. But Chasing the Dragon, bleak as it is, makes me the happiest as a writer, because it proved to me that a) I can write something other than fluff, b) I<can pack a whole story into way fewer words than is my wont, and c) if the dialogue fairy died an untimely death, I’d still be able to crank out a story. Ironically, it’s the one story I’ve written that I would encourage people NOT to read because OMG BLEAK.

Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Chasing the Dragon was about as risky as it got, and that was plenty risky enough for a start. Baby steps, you know?

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Why, yes, I do! This year I plan to write MORE, maybe even to QUADRUPLE my output yet again, although that seems ridiculously ambitious, and to write at least a couple of stories that aren't prompted by challenges. I' also percolating a couple of story ideas in other fandoms (Supernatural and MCR) and working on some original fiction.

My Best Story
Oh, I don’t know. I’m not very good with picking bests. *thinks about it* Nope, can't do it.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe
I don’t feel that any of my stories are especially underappreciated. Some may get less feedback than others, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to “underappreciated” in my Pollyanna-ish universe. Probably the story that received the least feedback was Chasing the Dragon but that likely had as much to do with the fact that I didn’t post to announce it was mine or do anything WHATSOEVER to promote it, because apparently I am a lazy ho.

Most fun
Probably The Frog Prince (Sort Of) .  Although there's funnish stuff in all of them other than Chasing the Dragon. I'm all about the fun, really.

Most disappointing
For whom? I’m not especially disappointed in any of them, although I do wish I’d had more time to polish Like a Big Pizza Pie because it kind of needed it, and it’s embarrassing like whoa to send a story out there and then find out when you’re re-reading that it has errors and gaucheries that you’d have tidied up if you hadn’t already been hours and hours past deadline.

Most sexy
Um. Hmmm. Probably Consequences? I’m not sure that any of the others were particularly sexy. Unless, of course, you have a thing for frogs.

Story With a Single Sexy Moment
I can’t remember. I think The Frog Prince had just the one sexy moment, and it wasn’t especially sexy, as I recall, although Lance was naked Whatever. I’ll go with Frog Prince.

Hardest to Write
All of them. Almost as much fun as dental surgery, but without the added bonus of painkillers. If finishing a story weren’t such an almighty high, I’d probably never pick up a pen or lay fingers to a keyboard again.

Most Unintentionally Telling
Um. I dunno. Have you gleaned my deepest, darkest (or even partially buried, vaguely tarnished) secrets from any of these stories? Like, for example, that I kind of adore these popslash boys? That Chris is my FAVOURITE??? ♥♥Chris♥♥ That I like snarky dialogue? OMG, you’ve FOUND ME OUT.

to write at least a couple of stories that aren't prompted by challenges

Hahaha. Yes. I think I've only ever written one popslash story that wasn't for a challenge. And I wrote a prequel to that one that *was* for a challenge. I have no idea what that means-I'm a slow writer, and there are too many challenges?

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear, if it weren't for the public shame of bailing on a challenge, I'd never write anything at all. And even that didn't use to stop me. Sigh.

[identity profile] vaudevilles.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Is Chris really your favourite? Like why? It's not like he's funny and snarky and sparkly at all.

And Consequences isn't at all sexy. Unless you're not dead. I still flail at Justin's desperation and JC's suave domination (and Chris watching - hee!). And I don't even like the JuC.

I'm always happy to provide informal challenges if it gets people to write *perks up hopefully*

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He is!!! He totally is!!! I love him because he's boring and staid and never says anything witty or amusing because omg how I abhor the witty and amusing.

And Consequences isn't at all sexy. Unless you're not dead.
Hee! See, I just don't know about these things. I mean, I know what I find sexy in other people's fiction, but I seem to labour under the illusion that I pretty much only write vanilla stories. And then I'm shocked and embarrassed when I re-read and discover that perhaps my definition of vanilla is just a tad off.

*snickers* Okay, then. Tell me what to write for TrickyFish day. Because I HAVE to produce something for TrickyFish day but my brain's just going "la la la, trickyfish, pretty" but not delivering anthing that's actually, you know, helpful. And "Chris was pretty; so was Lance; there was an abundance of prettiness in the room, and they were it. The end." won't quite cut it, I think.

[identity profile] vaudevilles.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! You challenged me on my challenge! *flails wildly*

TrickyFish. I adore TrickyFish. I even like your 19 word story because, like, so true, man!

You could always do that rewrite of The Philadelphia Story with Chris as CK Dexter Haven and Lance as Tracy Lord and snarky JC as Macaulay Connor and Joey as Uncle Willy and Justin as Liz Imrie. Not that I'm harping on about that or anything.

Or a story where Lance helps Chris over his fear of heights with judicious application of blowjobs.

I share your adoration of the TrickyFish!!!

The only probably with the rewriting of The Philadelphia Story is that the deadline is FEBRUARY 2ND!!!! *faints at the thought of churning out a decent remake in such a short time*

Looks like it'll have to be Acrophobia: The Fellatio Effect. :)

WHAT! WAIT!

I thought trickyfish day was at the end of Feb.

*goes to the comm*

*cries*

I'm right, aren't I? Oh, god, I saw your comment and my SOARED with RELIEF and then I saw your TEARS of WOE and I realized the bitter truth. Of all the things to actually be right about, this would be the suckiest.

[identity profile] vaudevilles.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs the Terri*

You can do it hon! Cos it's TrickyFish!

Acrophobia: The Fellatio Effect

Oh damn, I'm so going to hate that.

But I am going to continue to poke you about the rewrite. Because I am nothing if not an incredibly annoying nag persistent.

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*snickers* I think it's plane-fellatio thing has been done a BAZILLION times already, but who gives a rat's ass, right?

And poke away. I'm actually starting to get intrigued by the idea. I thought I'd look for the movie at my local video store this weekend and see if it gives me that pingy little ooh-popslash-potential feeling.

[identity profile] vaudevilles.livejournal.com 2007-01-10 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah but has the plane-fellatio thing... um. nope. nada. nothing new. I could weep at my lack of originality but. that was the key part of the challenge. yes. yes it was.

AND I HAVE A COMPLETE LACK OF GUILT OVER MY HOPEFUL PIMP-FU ABILITY... you will watch Philadelphia Story... you will find it popslashy... you are getting sleeeeeepy.

Consequences was sexy. Hey, you should write something for [livejournal.com profile] juc_day this year! That wouldn't be a challenge. :D

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And I'll totally write something for JuC day again this year. Challenges? Bring 'em on!

Отличный блог!
