MTYG REVEAL

So, yay with the MTYG reveal! And a great big SMOOCH for [livejournal.com profile] nopseud for the fabulous And You'll Notice My Smile (Is Like Kool Aid), which was the PERFECT SeSa giftie for me, with Lance and his KILLER SMILE and CHRISSSSS!!! and miscommunication and cluelessness and snark layers and all manner of AWESOMENESS and, oh, yes, did I mention? CHRISSSS!!! And written by nopseud, so if you haven't read it yet, jump on it NOW before it, I don't know, it BLOWS UP from sheer FABULOSITY.

I've managed to read most of the Trickyfish, TrickC and Lambs, but that's about it. I've been horribly caught up with not murdering my aunt lately (quite successfully, so far, knock on wood), but she's finally buggered off to visit a friend for a week and then she'll be moving in to her independent living place, which is too far away too visit on any kind of a daily basis, so FREAKING YAY on that score. Phew. Maybe I'll be able to read some of the other pairings now.

I wrote Midas Touch for [livejournal.com profile] silveryscrape. When I recieved my assignment, I was all OMG YAY! TrickC! For Mary!! Because, dude, TrickC! My second favourite pairing! And then I paused as sanity took hold and realized, OMG, for Mary! Because I'm, like, kind of in blistering awe of Mary's ability to pack a bazillion layers of meaning into THREE WORDS, which is a skill I clearly lack. *glances upward. um. yes. clearly* PLUS, Mary mentioned in her lj that she had a special fondness for now!fic or future!fic, and I'm so woefully out of the loop these days in terms of canon that I thought I'd have to move into someone else's HEAD (I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds, because, dude, your encyclopedic grasp of canon is MIND BOGGLING) forthe duration of the writing, which somehow didn't seem feasible, what with the aunt-ing and whatsmasing and all that good stuff. BUT. Then I read more closely, and Mary ALSO said she liked fantastical elements, so yeah. Ugly magic shoes. Of COURSE. What ELSE? The thing almost wrote itself. AHAHAHA.

Big squish to Budge for the beta, but please don't blame her for the typos I noticed just now when I went to the MTYG site to grab the link, because those happened AFTER she gave it back to me. Gah, the humiliation.

Huge thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] ephemera_pop, [livejournal.com profile] nopseud, [livejournal.com profile] phaballa and [livejournal.com profile] vaudevilles for keeping the popslash SeSa alive and kicking for another year!

I adore the trickc boys very much and that story was awesome. I can see JC getting some ugly magic shoes. Dorothy had her ruby slippers and JC had his ugly magic shoes. It's cool that you got a pairing you could write and for someone you admire. I would feel that way if I got TrickC and someone like Turps33 as a recip :) Again thank you for creating an awesome story :)

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
You're so NICE TO ME!!! Thank you. And you're right, those trickc boys are most definitely adorable. Dorothy and JC -- hee! So that's what they have in common!

[identity profile] musiclover03.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
LOL its true though! anyone who appreciates Trickc is cool in my book :) Kinda slid them in the story I wrote as well this year :)

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! It's so hard not to. They just kinda always sorta wanta. You know?

[identity profile] musiclover03.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh don't I know it! My trickc bunnies were nibbling at my ankles while i was writing this year LOL Much like chris himself--they were adamantly trying to get my attention and multiplied in the process. "pay attention to me! write me! play with me!!"

[identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fabulous story, but that's because you wrote it.

My knowledge of canon comes from my obsession with [livejournal.com profile] canalbaby's Chronology.

Whenever I write I want to be Mary.

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
*squishes you*

Your knowledge of canon may come from [livejournal.com profile] canalbaby's chronology, and I agree that the chronology is freaking AWESOME, but, dude, you remember it!! How do you do that???

[identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Six and a half years is how I remember it. Now, ask me what year my mother was born in, and I couldn't tell you. :) But it's practically instinctive at this point in time.

Maybe that's why I'm not sure I want to write SPN - where are the reams and reams of canon??

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Yeah, okay, I get it.

where are the reams and reams of canon?

See, I've never written in any fandom other than popslash, so I've been wondering what it would be like to have just the show as source material. Interesting. Are you more of a J2-er or a Wincester? Personally, I'm leaning more to the Sam/Dean end of the scale, partly because the show is so awesome and there just seems to be so much scope for fiction. God, I love this show. On the other hand, I just joined a couple of fic communities, and OMG, there's a lot of stuff being posted!!!

[identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I like to read J2 but have no desire to write it. I think it's because I really don't know them at all, and I'm used to feeling like the people I write are living in my head. J2 sometimes seems to be a reason to write a load of AUs using pretty faces.

Sam and Dean, on the other hand, are starting to take over my heart. And there's so much potential for fic. I used to write in Sentinel, before popslash, and while the show was kind of sucky and not at all as fabulous as SPN, there was that same potential of a million different things to do with the characters and still stay in that universe. (You may have noticed that I'm not a big AU fan, although I don't hate them.)

And there are 6859403 SPN stories being posted every single freakin' day, so why do they need me to write one too, you know?

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way about J2, except for the bit about reading it, because, meh, not so much. I've watched some interviews and, yeah, lovely amusing young men, adorable interactions, but I don't know. Maybe it's a case of been there, done that, or maybe it's the idea of having to scrounge around for details about their personal lives that I really just don't care about, or maybe it's because the show itself is just too rich in possibility.

Sentinel was one of those ghastly-fabulous shows, wasn't it? SO MUCH SLASHABILITY, and so much delicious potential for stories spinning off in all kinds of directions. I didn't write in the fandom, but I did a lot of lurkery reading in it. And I totally hear you on the keeping the characters in their own universe thing. I've read some AUs and enjoyed them, and I've even written a couple of my own (Gratuity and The Frog Prince), but for me, the only AUs that really appeal are those where the characters are still themselves in the most fundamental ways. Jim and Blair might be Pony Express riders, Chris and Lance and the boys can be the Trapeze Family Robinson in a traveling circus, but if they don't sound like Jim/Blair/Chris/Lance/et al and they don't behave like Jim/Blair/Chris/Lance/et al, I'm outta there. If I want original fiction, I'll go hunt some up. It's one of the reasons N Sync AUs set in the past tend not to work very well for me: it's really hard for authors to capture Chris's brand of snark in, say, Victorian England or whatever, and so many authors don't even bother trying.

And there are 6859403 SPN stories being posted every single freakin' day, so why do they need me to write one too, you know?

This is the daunting thing, isn't it? But there were a bazillion stories written in popslash before we got here, too, and there's still exciting new stuff being written. THERE'S ROOM FOR US OVER THERE, REALLY!!

[identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, first off, Jim and Blair were more married than Larry and I are. I mean, really. And plot-wise, the possibilities were endless.

As far as AUs are concerned, I adore Lance, his personality, what he looks like, how he moves, how he talks. But I love Lance Bass, member of NSYNC, with everything that goes along with that, way more than I love or am interested in Lance Bass, biking tour guide or architect, or, god help me, high school student.

Sam and Dean, though. Fucking amazing characters and canon. I may be late to the party, and just in time for a truncated season 3, but wow. It's an interesting fandom, too. Why would anyone write a Sam/Dean AU? There's that one 23/? 'verse where they're students in a boarding school and NOT BROTHERS, and I guess so that's so the writer can do sex without that pesky incest. I'm not reading it, but I assume that's the reason. Um, that sounds like original fiction to me.

But anyway, all that fic is fascinating to me, with the different directions it takes. So, yes, you're right. THERE'S ROOM FOR US.

[identity profile] vaudevilles.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
I was pretty damn sure you wrote Midas Touch (though I did have a small moment when I thought it was Pen).

And hoorah for the ridding of the aunt infestation. *squishes you for avoiding squishing the relative*

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought you'd guess! Was it the "fuckier fuckhead" that gave me away? (If it had been Pen, those typos wouldn't have been there. Sigh. If I'd finished it in time, as in not several hours after it was due, I would have had time to ask for more beta help, too, but that's another story.)

I am so noble in the non-aunt-squishing, I can't tell you how proud I am of myself. Or, well, obviously I CAN, because I just DID, but you get my drift. I am awe-inspiring in my restraint.

*squishes you back*

My suspicions were raised initially by

Joey nods blearily. "S'right, you know, C. People do. They--. What're we talking about?"

And the rest of the beautifully drunken Joey, which had to be either you or [livejournal.com profile] no_pseud and I KNEW she'd written yours so...

And then it was confirmed by the Chris dialogue and the way he was pining. Plus, you know, it felt like it'd been written for me, which is always a dead giveaway that it's yours!

[identity profile] silveryscrape.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
I looove my story! Yay, Sesa! Yay, Sola. It really is so much fun to read.

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay!! I'm so glad you love it! I know you wanted yearning, too, but I'm afraid my version of yearning is possibly a bit too farcical to be actually recognizable as yearning, but there you go. OMG, that icon is AWESOME!!

[identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you seriously underestimate your writing ability, chick. *hugs* It's good to see a post from you again :) Life treating you okay?

[identity profile] sola-fiamma.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*smooches you* Thank you! Life is being its usual beyotchy self, but I'm holding my own. *take THAT, life!*

And a great big SMOOCH for nopseud for the fabulous And You'll Notice My Smile (Is Like Kool Aid),

Thank you! Knowing that you'd enjoyed it really made my Christmas :-)

In that case, it was just WIN WIN WIN!
